According to William Crampton: World of Flags, Studio, 1990, the former
flag of FRELIMO was inspired on that of ANC, added with W fimbriations
and a red hoist triangle extending about 1/3. The proportions are said
to be 5:8.

In the book "Unterwegs am Sambesi" published in the German Democratic
Republic in the early 1980s is a color photo with this unknown Flag. The
color differs from the first FRELIMO flag. It
could not be this flag, because that was shown on the same picture near
the UFE.

On the photo in this book the top stripe is really blue. The known flag
of the FRELIMO flies alongside it, so that falsification
of the color is not possible.
